TOEFL® Board and Committee of Examiners
Connecting the TOEFL Program to the education community worldwide
ETS has two external bodies that connect the TOEFL Program to the fields of international higher education and English language learning, teaching and testing around the world.
TOEFL Board
The TOEFL Board advises ETS on the policies under which ETS administers the TOEFL test. Created in 1973, the Board's membership consists of up to 16 individuals drawn from across the broad field of international higher education. TOEFL Board members represent international student mobility experts, secondary schools, as well as 2-year, 4-year and graduate institutions in the public and private sectors.
Board members ensure ETS staff are aware of trends in student mobility and the needs of higher education institutions so the TOEFL Program can better serve students and institutions.
TOEFL Committee of Examiners
The TOEFL Committee of Examiners is a standing committee of the TOEFL Board. The Committee of Examiners is composed of experts in the fields of language teaching, testing and research, and it advises the TOEFL Board and ETS on these matters. These renowned experts:
- provide insights into trends and developments in the areas of English-language teaching, learning and testing
- offer advice on test content and research related to the TOEFL test
